A town of roughly 2,300, Rising Sun sits along the banks of the Ohio River in southeastern Indiana. The arrival of casino gambling in the late 1990s added a major new attraction to this quiet river town only 40 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio. Stroll the town’s charming downtown shopping district, relax along the tranquil riverfront, or try your luck at the local casino, open 24/7. Campers can choose from four campgrounds within 20 miles of town.

Little Farm on the River RV Park Camping Resort

Only 2 miles north of downtown Rising Sun, Little Farm on the River RV Park Camping Resort (littlefarmresort.com) offers campers two main camping areas. The first clings to the banks of the Ohio River with sweeping river views, and the second is clustered around a pond stocked with hungry catfish. Between the two areas, Little Farm has 186 sites -- 172 with full hookups and 14 with water and electric only -- that can accommodate RVs or tents. If you arrive without camping gear, you can rent a small or large cabin or set up housekeeping in the resort’s rental trailer. Open year-round, the campground has a wide array of amenities, including an Olympic-size pool, two pavilions, two playgrounds, a snack bar, a miniature golf course, sports courts, a recreation hall with fireplace, hayrides and golf cart rentals.

Campshore Campground

Campshore Campground (campshoreontheriver.com) lies along the banks of the Ohio River just a short drive north of Rising Sun’s Rising Star Casino. Campshore’s 113 RV sites include 55 with full hookups and 58 with water/electric; 64 sites are pull-throughs that can accommodate larger rigs. For tent camping, the campground offers an additional 190 campsites with no hookups. Also available are a limited number of rental cabins. Facilities include a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, boat ramps, sports courts, a playground, a picnic pavilion, a gift shop and a bathhouse with showers and restrooms. Campshore is typically open for camping from early May to early November.

Indian Springs Campground

Reserved exclusively for RVs, Indian Springs Campground (indianspringscampground.com) is 17 miles north of Rising Sun in the town of North Bend, Ohio. Clustered around the campground’s 16-acre lake are 64 RV sites with full hookups; 13 sites are pull-throughs. Open year-round, Indian Springs has a number of amenities, including a game room, a barber shop, a bathhouse with restrooms and showers, coin-operated laundry facilities, boat rentals, a playground and a walking trail.

Follow the River RV Resort

Open year-round and reserved for RVs only, Follow the River RV Resort (followtheriverrvresort.com) is 19 miles south-southwest of Rising Sun in the Indiana river town of Florence, which also has a casino resort of its own. The resort’s 160 sites have full hookups, including cable TV. The campground’s centerpiece is a lake that offers catch-and-release fishing for campers. Other facilities and services include a clubhouse, a camp store, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, a volleyball court, a playground, a paved biking and hiking trail, a game room, showers and restrooms.
